Notes and Cautions:
Foe | Location | HP | Reward | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
bear | Mountain Stream | n/a | jar of ointment | It evades your attacks and doesn't attack back. USE DEAD MAGIC FISH ON BEAR and it will leave a jar of ointment for you. |
guard | Marketplace | 1 ? | n/a | Guards die instantly, but are also instantly replaced. |
mire imp | Idol Swamp | 20 | stinky bait | Appears soon after entering Idol Swamp. |
lizard maiden | Old Stone Bridge | 31 | two-handed sword | Don't attack her until you've got the gladius sword and burlap armor equipped first. |
giant snow-serpent | Frosted Uplands | 33 | slab of snow-serpent meat | Appears when you first attempt to go north over the bridge. |
Pyrexis hound pack | any outdoor location | 37 | Pyrexian eye | They enter the game (at Marketplace, presumably) soon after you discover the chainmail armor. They will hunt you down, unless you find them first. |
living Klengon dead | Graveyard | 44 | suit of chainmail armor | They attack when you enter Graveyard for the first time. |
voltaic wraith | Eerie Pinnacle (1st); almost anywhere (later) | 44 | (it's complicated) | It appears the first time when you attempt to take the necklace in the pinnacle. Defeating it only makes it go away for a while, and an Elf girl steals the necklace before you can seize it. You will need to defeat the wraith every so often now, until you arrange cabling for the robodroid. After you USE CABLING ON DROID, USE CABLING ON PUMPS, and USE BLUE END ON DROID, wait for the telltale cracking of the wraith, and return to Scarred Forest. The robodroid will absorb the wraith, fully charging itself and ending the wraith's menace once and for all. |
Von Darth the Sly | Gravel Pit of Rogues | 65 | (his friendship?) | Start battle via SEIZE BLUE BANNER (the lowest one on the challenge pole). |
infernal ape | Wooded Foothills | 70 | (opens passage to mountain peak) | Unclear what events trigger the ape's appearance in mid-game. |
Thrang | Gravel Pit of Rogues | 77 | (his friendship) | Start battle via SEIZE GREEN BANNER (the 2nd one on the challenge pole). If you can defeat him, he will later show up in Graveyard and tell you first about a science treasure in the Ruins, and secondly that his friend Gunwar, a pirate, who searched in vain for a black hole metal axe, is someone you should parlay with. |
Viraxian Hell-soldier | Idol Swamp | 87 | black hole metal axe | Summoned by USE TOTEM ON IDOL. |
mutated morgom | Bustling Port | 159 | (nothing) | Attacks when you leave the pirate ship with both Gunwar and the garter. The eyepatch is lost at the beginning of the battle, so you can't ever return to the pirate ship. |
specteral spirit | Tomb | 196 | (opens passage to Crypt) | Attacks when you enter the tomb. |
ruin slug | Rocky Ruin | 198 | (opens passage to Vault) | You'll probably need Gunwar's help to defeat the slug. |
succubus bee girl witch queen | Perfumed Boudoir | ## | (frees Vessa) | The succubus will replace Vessa after you've gifted the Temple with both a sword and scroll. The battle will start when you use a new gift on "Vessa". The succubus is very difficult to hit; I don't know any trick besides persistence to beat her. |
cave ooze | Cave | 144 | spices (and access to inky sluice) | Attacks as you enter the cave. |
giant gold spider | Pine Forest | 135 | necklace | The spider attacks when you try to take the necklace from the gold statue. The statue, webs, etc. aren't here in the Pine Forest until after the Elf girl steals the necklace in Eerie Pinnacle. |
Foul Emma | Gravel Pit of Rogues | 95 | (her friendship) | Start battle via SEIZE GOLD BANNER (the 3rd banner). Later at Stone Cold Bridge, Emma will tell you that there's a secret entrance to the castle's slaves pens near there, and to SEIZE BLACK CORD to get into the castle proper. |
Xakanda the Ape | Gravel Pit of Rogues | 146 | (his friendship) | Start battle via SEIZE RED BANNER (the 4th and highest). After defeating him, when you leave the Pit, he will teach you the secret of Sulduku Breathing, greatly reducing your chance of ever drowning. He also invites you to try fighting him again. |
copper gargoyle | Castle | 118 | ? | It attacks when you enter the castle proper, after you USE BLACK CORD in the Slave Pens. |
school of sky piranha | Dizzying Cliffside | 68 | ? | ?? |
master gladiator | Gravel Pit of Rogues | 216/288 | (his friendship) | Start battle via SEIZE BLACK BANNER (the 5th one!). This banner only appears after several victories in the pit. After you defeat him and leave the pit, he'll tell you that the way to win the royal psi-witch's approval is to give her psi-pspice balm, also called amalgam. Later, visit him in his tent and trade arms; his HP changes when you try a rematch. |
headless horseman | Lonely Hill | 126 | ? | Appears after you've successfully chatted with the psi-witch and returned to the Hill. |
Slaver King | Throne Room | 3280 | ? |
Word to the Wise: Having too many inventory items at one time can be detrimental to your fighting skills. You can safely drop items at Dark Alleyway as long as you haven't abused Vessa the Delicate Doxy.
