Now that you've held them in your hands, you can see what they are: they are memories. This one: a wedding, the traveller dancing in the crowd of guests, her face glowing. This one: a brightly-coloured bird, hopping from branch to branch, the traveller's eyes following it intently. This one: a finishing line, her chest breaking the ribbon before any of the other runners. There are others, all of them beautiful, but sadly faded. These are her joys, or they were.
They strain at the edge of your sight, fluttering as if wishing to take flight, and then sinking. You have the strangest feeling that with a little effort, they could transform into something altogether different.
