This is your old staff. A good old friend of yours carved it for you years ago. It saved your bacon when you most needed it. You feel it somehow has some magical quality about it. It has some nicks and abrasions on it, probably from the long fall from above, but these only add to its magical luster. It certainly has a good heft to it.

It was carved for you by a friend many years ago. It is about an inch and a half wide and 4 feet long. It seems to have some magical property that you have not as yet identified. In any case, you take it with you wherever you go walking.

It's a memento that you created, to remind you of your time playing the game Heroine's Mantle; designed completely to your specifications and vision. It's actually a yellow lightstick, just over nineteen and a half inches long--about a half-meter, as described in the game--and is painted with runes that you made up.

It's currently switched [if off] off [else] on, so it is giving off a pulsating glow, every five seconds [end if]. There is a brass switch on one end, and the other end has a copper band around it.

Though it's battery-powered, you like to pretend that it has the same powers as the Staff in the game. You know, LIFESCAN, to search for signs of life; HEATSCAN (something), to check something for heat; ATTRACT/REPEL (something), to move small objects; and MIMIC (something), to make itself look like another object of similar shape and size.

As you know, the powers of the Staff are activated solely by your own will, and you figure one day you'll be able to completely unlock its potentials. And a little practice never hurts. Though you have always thought being male might be an obstacle.

The Holy Grail (1989)

The staff is approximately five feet long, and is beautifully carved from a single piece of ivory. Indeed, so intricate is its decoration, so detailed its embellishment, that some would say no human hand was ever responsible for its construction. As you examine it in even more detail, you notice to your amazement that the topmost end of the staff, just above the handgrip, is surrounded by a shimmering, hazy glow.

Lydia's Heart (2007)

The staff is a straight piece of polished dark wood nearly six feet long and about an inch in diameter. The head of the staff broadens and flattens slightly, and is curved forward, giving the staff somewhat the look of an upside-down capital ‘J’ from which most of the curved part has been broken off. It’s not broken, however. It looks quite well cared for, if such a thing can be said of a stick.
