  The game's prologue describes the stone as a rare blue quartz diamond.

  This is by far the most beatiful gem of any kind you've ever seen. A pure white light appears to shine from within the bead-sized diamond, which you would guess to be two or three karats. The facets are crystal clean, and the round cut appears (to your unaided eye) to be absolutely flawless.
