Let's examine some coffins! And sarcophaguses too, which are much the same thing, really.

The runes on the tomb form a word... or something like a word. The syllables grind and crack against each other as you try to assemble them in your mind.
After an unmeasured time, you think you have hold of it. This must be the Unnameable Name that Francois Crane and Arne Cragnessum described.

A large, gray stone coffin with a heavy-looking lid. It is carved with an intricate pattern of swirling lines, none of them intersecting at right angles. There is an inscription on the side.

A stone coffin of ancient and exquisite craftsmanship that has somehow gone terribly wrong. The coffin is seamed with cracks and rifts, out of which ooze foul-smelling black slime. The floor around the coffin is crusted with years worth of dried slime.
The sarcophagus contains a single dark keyhole in its center.

Despite the slime that's grown over its surface, the stone coffin stands out from the surrounding decay. It must be carved from some more durable material than the walls of the castle.

[if closed:] This is the place in which your latest lover rested. A graceful girl named Sabrina, with whom you spent exquisitely pleasant moments, slowly sucking her veins dry while she waited for the dark gift that would make her eternally young and beautiful.
But you enjoyed drinking her sweet blood too much to decide to turn her into a vampire. Every day you ordered the gipsies which were at your service to take care of her, making her recover the energy lost during the past night with banquets and transfusions, so that you could drink again at the delicious spring of her jugular, when the sun set. In order to make her available at all times, you had even brought her to your hideout, hosting her in this wooden coffin that you decorated yourself so beautifully.
Who knows if she managed to escape the fury of your persecutors. However, the fact that the coffin lid, usually open, has been closed and firmly nailed down doesn't bode well.

It is not a particularly impressive coffin, made cheaply from some unfinished wood and rusty nails. It looks like it was made to be functional, not luxurious.
Curiously, you hear what sounds like yelling coming from inside the coffin.

A sturdy wooden coffin which is currently [closed or open]. The intricate carvings on the casket depict rivers flowing through a checkered landscape of colored tiles. Looking close, you see that script flows along with them - the secret of the town's demise! 'The Gaucho promised the town's redesign was just around the corner...for ten years! Without a more welcoming facade, we all died alone.'

The king's sarcophagus is richly adorned. You were involved in the design, making sure that the rituals were observed. The king himself is hidden from your sight, inside the casket.
Pit of the Condemned (2015)

This coffin is hollowed out of a single piece of the local hard rock; an impressive feat for an occupant who must have been important. It wasn't enough, though: the heavy stone lid lies on the floor and the contents of the sarcophagus are missing.
The Prize (2012)

The sarcophagus is made of a single stone slab and is not marked in any way. It seems the makers did not find it necessary to honor the Alchemist with a decorated coffin. At the four corners large bowls have been carved from the slab.

They're sort of like little coffin envelopes. Like, if you wanted to mail a corpse to your pen-pal in Prague, just nail it into a coffin-envelope...but no, that's a horrible idea. The postage would be exorbitant. In many of the current specimens, the wood has rotted through, allowing you mind-altering glimpses of their contents, many of which appear to have been fished from the Earths deepest unexplored marine gulches, and several others whose existance on this world it would be very difficult to justify.
