Ze French countryside is full of fresh air is a Z-machine interactive fiction game written with Inform 7 and is © 2007 by Eric Forgeot (writing as Otto Grimwald). It was a participant in the Speed-IF Introcomp event.
In this small game, you play as a civilized spy. Your mission was to retrieve the spirit of the SpeedIF, stolen by dastardly Francophones and hidden in the Kingdom of Carapagne. But you were betrayed and captured and may spend the rest of your life in the prison of Saint Margueleine unless you can escape.
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 3 (English version) of the game. There is a French version of the game, but I don't know enough French to play it.
Caserne
You have two turns to do anything before you're taken to the cellar. You might "listen", for example.
> x Capitain. x Jerome.
Cellar
By the way, the description of paintings should be "Some ugly graffitis probably made by non-humans artists" but there was a typo in the source code.
> x paintings. x meal. x bars. x table.
> x ashtray. take ashtray.
> x bed. take straw.
The meal should be cold by now. That's useful:
> x meal. put meal on bars. break bars.
How anyone is supposed to guess to do that, I have no idea.
Fields
You have two ways of getting rid of the goat. You can't exit until it's gone.
> x goat.
> give straw to goat —or— hit goat (with ashtray).
> exit.
Your HeadQuarter, somewhere 20 feet under the sea.
