Where Nothing Is Ever Named is a Z-machine interactive fiction game written with Inform 7 and is © 2024 by Viktor Sobol. It was an entry in IF Comp 2024 where it took 49th place.
In this extremely short one-room escape game, you are in a place without names, not even your own. You see a something and there's also the other thing.
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on the competition release of the game. This game does not declare its version number.
SPOILERS AHEAD. Reading a walkthrough prematurely can sometimes diminish one's enjoyment of an interactive fiction game. Please make an honest effort to play the game before reading this walkthrough.
(It's very cool and shady.)
> x me. i. (nothing)
> n. (you get nowhere)
> xyzzy. think. pray. sleep. wake. fly.
Interact with the "something":
> x something. touch it. (it purrs)
> kiss it. take it.
Interact with the "other thing":
> x thing. touch it. smell it.
> sit on it.
If you wait long enough, the something will meow, and the other thing will snort.
> ride.
You have a cat, you're on a horse, and you see trees and sunlight.
*** The End. ***
There are no credits within the game, but the game's description on the IF Comp 2024 website is:
A brief escape puzzle inspired by Chapter 3 of "Through the Looking-Glass" by Lewis Carroll.
You can leave the "something" behind when you escape, or bring it with you, but otherwise the two endings are very similar.
