Key & Compass presents:
Undo
by Neil deMause

Undo is a TADS 2 interactive fiction game and is © 1995 by Neil deMause (as "null dogmas"). It was an entry in the TADS division of IF Comp 1995 where it took 6th place.

In this tiny surreal game, you play as an adventurer at the end of a long quest. To reach your final goal, you just need to get past this large hole, a frog, and a small duck.

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Version 1.0.1 of the game.

SPOILERS AHEAD. Reading a walkthrough prematurely can sometimes diminish one's enjoyment of an interactive fiction game. Please make an honest effort to play the game before reading this walkthrough.

Walkthrough

BinaryRoom In thedark Someplace By ahole Self-ReferentialRoom (win)

Someplace

> x sign. x me. i. w.

In the dark

> x error. e. n.

Binary Room

As near as I can tell, the binary sequence doesn't mean anything.

> x swamp. x 0. x 1. take 0. take 1. i.

> s. s.

Self-Referential Room

> x room. read writing.

> x eraser. take eraser. invert eraser.

> erase eraser. undo.

> n. e.

By a Hole

> x hole. x frog. x duck. x bar.

> enter hole.

This is all you really need to do in this game:

> ask duck about hole. ("What large hole?" The hole is gone.)

> ask frog about duck. ("What duck?" The duck is gone.)

> e.

What game won?

Note that you can rob yourself of victory by either asking the frog about the duck first or by asking the frog about the hole after the duck is gone.
