Key & Compass presents:
Toonesia
by Jacob Weinstein

Toonesia is a TADS 2 interactive fiction game and is © 1995 by Jacob Weinstein (as "C.J.T. Spaukling"). It was an entry in the TADS division of IF Comp's first year, IF Comp 1995, where it took 2nd place.

In this short parody of Warner Bros. cartoons, you play as Elmo Fuld, millionaire. You want to shoot Bud Bunny for dinner, but he's dumped you in this bare cell and hidden your gun somewhere else. Oooh, that rascally rabbit!

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Version 1.0 of the game.

Inside the Mine

A ridge forms in the ground, east to west, as you enter.

> take jewels. (Can't because of your tax bracket!)

> take lamp. rub lamp. g. (+1)

A genie gives you a magic helmet and new commands: "west winds, blow" and "east winds, blow".

Now follow the ridge:

> w. s. e. s.

In the Woods

> x Bud. show sign to Bud. (+1. He leaves!)

> z. z. (A vision of loveliness emerges from the hole!)

> x woman. x hair. x dress.

> wear helmet.

> east winds, blow.

> west winds, blow. (+1; Bud's wig blows away!)

Incidentally, you can return all of Bud's stuff to him, if you wish:

> give shirt to Bud. give baseball cap to Bud.

> give sandwich to Bud. give bottle to Bud.

But enough delays! Shoot that rabbit!

> shoot Bud. g. g. g. (+2)

It's now roadrunner season. Bud lives for another year.

Endings

Note also that you can make the game unwinnable if you give your gun to the beautiful woman. She dives back into the hole with it, and you never see her, the gun, or Bud Bunny again.

Also, I ought to point out that in the endings that ought to kill Elmo, he doesn't die because he's a toon. Incapacitated, yes, but he's not even unconscious. Elmo is still fully aware when he's crushed inside Taz's stomach or crumpled like an accordion at the bottom of the cliff. It's unexpectedly horrific in a game based on beloved cartoon characters.
