Key & Compass presents:
Search for the Lost Ark
by Garry Francis

Search for the Lost Ark is a Z-machine work of interactive fiction written with Inform 6 and is © 2023 by Garry Francis. It was an entry in Classic division of ParserComp 2023, placement to be determined.

In this religious adventure, you play as Jean Rousseau, a French seminarian; that is, a trainee priest. Local legend says The Ark of the Covenant was hidden by a priest in your village, but he died and now no one knows exactly where it is. The Church Council asks you to find the Ark and return it to the church's altar.

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the work.

SPOILERS AHEAD. Reading a walkthrough prematurely can sometimes diminish one's enjoyment of a work of interactive fiction. Please make an honest effort to play the work before reading this walkthrough.

Have you tried:

Biblical verses

Which Biblical verses you find in the game are randomized, but you'll see one from each of the five Books of Moses. These are the verses I saw when I first played the game, I'm listing them in book order, and I'm highlighting any numbers mentioned:

Together, these verses gave me the code 24271. But when I played again to test my walkthrough, I saw five completely new verses and the code that time was 66427.
