Key & Compass presents:
SchoolAdventure
by Jon Wätte and Mikael Gajecki

SchoolAdventure is a Z-machine work of interactive fiction written with Inform 6 and is © 1985, 2026 by Jon Wätte and Mikael Gajecki. This game was originally called SkolAdventure written in BASIC in Swedish and published in 1985. This English version was ported to Inform by Fredrik Ramsberg in 2026. See credits for more details.

In this small, amateur, sparsely-implemented old-school game, you play as someone who needs to escape from a school before the mad chemistry teacher blows the place up. You have 40 minutes. Good luck!

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 2 of the work.

SPOILERS AHEAD. Reading a walkthrough prematurely can sometimes diminish one's enjoyment of a work of interactive fiction. Please make an honest effort to play the work before reading this walkthrough.

Walkthrough

CAUTION:

This game was written in a rather unfriendly-to-players manner. Many reasonable attempts to interact with items fail for unknown reasons, and there's an extreme lack of useful feedback from failed interactions.

Consequently, you need to do everything exactly as the author intended because nothing else is going to work at all. And there's no UNDO.

In this game, never specify indirect objects in your commands. A command like UNLOCK DOOR WITH KEY will not be understood. Just try UNLOCK DOOR when you have the key in your inventory.

Workshop, North11:20 pm

Examining things in this game is profoundly unhelpful and uninteresting, except the note you're carrying and a locker in a corridor. Don't waste time looking at anything else.

> about. (This uses up a minute.)

> verbs. (Note the "drill" and "plug in" commands.)

> i. x note. (tells you to escape)

By the way, the lock pick is useless. Don't waste time with it.

The rusty knife can be deadly to you if you take it. Leave it alone.

The metal filings don't hide anything and you can't take them. Ignore them.

Corridor With Lockers

To the south is nothing but a dusty classroom with a half-burnt desk. To the east is a hall that leads to a deserted classroom with empty benches. Ignore both classrooms.

Ignore the wine in the locker; it's poisoned.

> x locker. take key.

> unlock door. (using the small key)

The key breaks off and is now stuck in the lock, but the door is unlocked now.

This is the response to ABOUT:

This is a translation of a game called SkolAdventure, which was written in Swedish, in BASIC for Spectravideo, by Jon Wätte and Mikael Gajecki. It was published by Nordiska Spectravideoklubben in SpectraView, vol. 2, no. 1, pp. 2-4; vol. 2, no. 2, pp. 10-12; vol. 2, no. 3, pp. ?-? (the pages were unnumbered in this issue) in 1985.

Mikael Mib Barnholdt translated the game to English and ported it to C# in 2026. Jonathan Gilbert made a BASIC version in 2026, which can be played in Swedish or English.

This port was made by Fredrik Ramsberg in 2026, and it's based on Jonathan Gilbert's code.
