In this religious fantasy game, you play as Father Blake Blade of St. Patrick's Parish in Boston. And since the Fall, you're also a demon slayer and one who communes with saints. St. John Vianney tells you a sloth demon dulled your sword and did other mischief while you slept, but your Communer duties will have to wait until you find out what Bishop DiAngelo wants you to do.
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 4 of the game.
SPOILERS AHEAD. Reading a walkthrough prematurely can sometimes diminish one's enjoyment of an interactive fiction game. Please make an honest effort to play the game before reading this walkthrough.
St. John Vianney tells you that as you slept, a demon dulled your sword, stole your whetstone, put a boulder in your garden, and possibly other mischief as well. You need to SHARPEN your sword and get EXORCISING.
The demon is still nearby, and for a short while (at least three turns), you can ask John about any topic.
> ask him about demon.
> ask him about sword —or— ask him about whetstone.(Demon took whetstone towards the river.)
> ask him about exorcising.(You do it by hitting the possessed with the flat of your sword, yes?)
> ask him about boulder.
John disappears.

The Bishop gives you three tasks to complete: deal with the boulder in the garden, escort Brother Allen to the friary across the river, and perform the Sacrament of the Sick on Barbara Galkowski who's in the Worchester hospital.
After completing a task, tell the Bishop about it or give him an item to prove you did the task.
Also note that the Bishop's orders take priority over your duties as a Communer.

Inventory
Relics
All the relics are kept in the plexiglass case in the reliquary. Ask Christian to unlock the case for you.
CAUTION: You cannot carry more than one relic at a time.
To use a relic, INVOKE relic ON something.
a glove. St. Pio's fingerless glove grants biolocation, the ability to be in two places at once.
In the reliquary, while also carrying the book and blessed oil, invoke the glove on the picture to travel to Barbara's side in the hospital.
a pair of sandals. St. Joseph's sandals grant levitation.
At the River Street area, invoke the sandals on the bridge. (Not on yourself as you might think.)
a medallion. St. Bartholomew's medallion grants weight manipulation.
In the garden, invoke the medallion on the boulder to reduce its weight.
a scrap of tunic. St. Francis's tunic scrap grants animal communication. The animal understands your question, and you get mental images from the animal in response.
At the riverbank, invoke the tunic on the carp to communicate with it.
The following three relics are never inventory items, but for completeness's sake, here are their summaries too.
a toe bone. St. Eligius's bone shard grants the ability to forge metal.
You won't take the bone because you don't expect to need it today.
a silk cloth. This cloth that once touched St. Gerard Majella's robe may help women become pregnant.
You won't take the cloth because this is the one relic you cannot invoke.
a cellphone. St. Carlo Acutis's cellphone helps with healing.
You only use this phone in dire emergencies mostly because its battery is low and you have no way to recharge it. No such emergency happens in this game, so you won't even take the phone.
Other items
Castout. It's the sword on the anvil in your bedroom. Unfortunately, while you slept, a demon dulled it.
After you re-obtain your whetstone, return to the relative privacy of your bedroom and SHARPEN CASTOUT there with it.
In the rectory office, when Colleen is acting strangely and blocking the church tunnel, EXORCISE COLLEEN with the flat of your sword.
Your swordsmanship will be put to excellent use during the battle with a dozen demons at game's end.
a book of rites. It's on the desk in your bedroom.
Take it and read it to learn how to perform the Rite of Anointing and Viaticum.
Make sure you have this book with you when you visit Barbara.
a cruet of olive oil. In the rectory office, ask Colleen about oil. She gives it to you, saying she took it for a salad she never had.
In the sacristy, give or show the oil to the Bishop. He blesses it for you, and it's now oil of the sick.
In the hospital, after you ASK BASHA ABOUT CONFESSION, ANOINT BASHA WITH OIL.
a worm. It's in the garden after you push the boulder into the bog; see medallion.
After finishing all of the Bishop's chores to his satisfaction, and after talking to the carp (see tunic), go to the riverbank and give the worm to the carp. It gives your whetstone back to you in exchange.
a rosary. Brother Allen gives this to you after you escort him safely to the friary; see sandals.
In the sacristy, give the rosary to the Bishop, as proof that you aided Brother Allen.
a picture. In the rectory office, ask Colleen about Barbara. She tells you that you know Barbara as Basha, the pierogies lady, and then Colleen gives you this Polaroid of her.
In the reliquary, while holding both the picture and the glove, INVOKE GLOVE ON POLAROID to bilocate yourself to the hospital.
a tin. In the hospital, Basha gives you this tin of pierogies after you perform the Sacrament of the Sick on her; see book, oil, picture, and glove.
In the sacristy, show or give the tin to the Bishop. You, the Bishop, and Saint Faustina Kowalska each eat one of the pierogies in Basha's memory.
a whetstone. It's in the Charles River; a demon threw it in there.
At the riverbank, while holding the tunic, INVOKE TUNIC ON CARP to learn that your stone is in the river, and that the carp will fetch it for you for some food.
After all your tasks with the Bishop are completed, return to the riverbank and give the worm to the carp to get your whetstone back.
Return to your bedroom (where it's less likely demons will be spying on you), and SHARPEN CASTOUT there with the stone; see Castout.
