In this game, you play as Talia Robin, an avid collector of Vigenere cards like almost everyone else you know. You soon learn that that the very rare and very valuable Toyotomi Typo was stolen from Jay Donovan, owner of Donovan's Cards. Trade up your cards and find out who did it! It's a quest!
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the game.

Extras
Characters
People:
You are Talia Robin. You enjoy collecting and trading Vigenere cards, but today is special because you also want to find out who stole the Toyotomi Typo.
The clerk in the Dollar Hut is more interested in his cards, binder, and phone than his job. You don't blame him.
A crowd of kids and young adults outside Donovan's Cards are trading cards in an upper value range. Sit to participate there when you have a good enough card.
The traders in Donovan's Cards are trading cards in a lower value range. You note that complimenting the traders results in better deals there.
The employee in the hallway blocks you from entering the VIP gallery unless you can show her you work for one of the card companies or for Donovan's Cards. She's not interested in cards herself, but you should ask her about herself to hear her story.
The cashier in the Magical Emporium is kind and helpful. She also has one of the best cards in the game to trade.
Jesse is a kid in the Emporium who genuinely likes the Glumpus. Good for you, kiddo.
Kids of all ages are in the Emporium.
A woman on the Metro is a kindred spirit. She's looking for a Sklarcrow XR card. Dare you kiss her?
A man in a centaur costume clumsily enters the Metro car with two sheetcakes and has a comical accident.
A man in a beekeeper suit clumsily enters the Metro car with boxes of "BEES" and has a comical accident.
The guests in the VIP gallery are pure background characters. Feel free to ignore them.
Jay Donovan is the owner of Donovan's Cards. His portrait portrays him as a king, and he's initially presented as the victim who was robbed. Turns out he's not the slightest bit innocent.
The guard in the VIP gallery is sensitive to loud noises and has a not-so-classy tattoo on his arm. He's also Donovan's accomplice in crime and they were the two masked men who robbed Karu's patrons of their cards.
Creatures:
The Dollar Hut Djinni can be summoned by unclogging the lamp then rubbing it. He grants you three wishes, but he's off his game.
The Toyotomi in the desert comes to life with your final wish. It's described as a sword-wielding Samurai colossus. Since it's hostile and powerful, you must get away from it!
A Glumpus gives you a big Jelly Hug when your chud Glumpus card is animated in the desert. Whichever other card you have with you is also animated and tries to defend you.
The Sklarcrow is a crow/scarecrow hybrid.
The Klipspringer is an adorable antelope-like creature.
The Sorasaurus is a dinosaur/dragon hybrid.
The Kryptangulor is a teal-metallic armadillo-like creature.
The Mystiq is a not-quite-human sorcerer.
The Zihautanehawk is a colorful bird with strong defensive abilities.
A Lego Spaceman, the animated version of your minifigure, blocks a fatal blow during the endgame.
Mentioned:
The Golden Jemima is the most valuable card in the world for the majority of the game, but doesn't make an appearance. Maybe there will be a sequel?
A red herring can be seen several levels deep after examining all the details on the Lego box in the Emporium.
Credits
This is the response to ABOUT:
The Most Valuable Card in the World is a tribute to my wonderful daughter Talia, whose idea to upgrade a nearly worthless card, one trade at a time, up to a highly valuable card was the inspiration for this story.
This game is also peppered (pebered?) with inside jokes and shared memories...but hopefully in a way that remains accessible to you even if you are not my offspring.
The game was coded masterfully by Brian Rushton, the most extraordinary and enjoyable creative collaborator imaginable. Honestly, you can't imagine it...you'd simply have to be lucky enough to work with him to realize that his talents, positive energy, and persistence are limitless. What a godsend. My only concern is that he might delete this acknowledgment out of humility.
DC (yours truly) wrote the game itself - the story, puzzles, descriptions, responses, dialogue, and all other text. So don't let Brian take credit for any of that, except the parts that were written poorly.
Many thanks to our beta testers: Steve Geller, Steven Cole, Drew Cook, Ray Huang, Nils Fagerburg, Jade, Robert Eggleston, Mike Russo, DemonApologist, and Talia herself.
Cover art is by Talia.
No AI was used to create any part of this game, including the cover art.
Endings
Your quest has ended
if you get a horrific infection searching the trash in the Dollar Hut bathroom.
if you are electrocuted in the Dollar Hut bathroom.
if the rancid bag of bacon explodes anywhere near you.
if you let the "billowing cloud of baconian feculence" out of the microwave and into your lungs because you didn't turn the vent on first.
if thieves steal your cards during your meal at Karu.
if the guard tackles you when you try to steal his key in the VIP gallery.
if you don't wish in the desert when asked if you have any last words.
if you're killed by the Typo because you don't have either the Zihautanehawk or the Spaceman helping to defend you.
if you do anything but run towards the bathroom during the chase scene.
if you fail to defeat Donovan and the guard in the final showdown in the Dollar Hut bathroom.
Stay fresh, cheese bags!
if you defeat the Typo's thieves and find yourself in possession of the most valuable card in the world. You can opt to either trade it away for millions, or keep it. Both are winning endings.
YOU HAVE WON (the alternate "No Upgrades" ending)
if you make your wish in the desert with nothing but the chud Glumpus to defend yourself with. To get to this ending, you must not get any other cards. Don't bother getting the Spaceman either.
Inventory
Cards (Vigenere)
Important: When the masked men enter Karu, put your cards onto the conveyor belt so the men don't steal them from you. Make sure to take your cards back when they return back to your table.
For fun: Show your current card to everyone you've already traded with for their reactions. It's like you're the Hero of the Beach.
a stupid chud Glumpus card (which you hate). Find it by kicking the trash in the Dollar Hut bathroom.
The chud Glumpus is used to get the new Glumpus, which see.
During the endgame, the chud is magically animated, and he clings to you using his Jelly Hug ability. This eventually saves you from electrocution, making it your favourite card.
At the end of the endgame, you learn that the chud Glumpus is now the most valuable card in the world and appraised at 10 million dollars, thanks to social media. You have the option to ACCEPT the offer to sell it or KEEP it; both lead to good endings.
a new Glumpus card (aka "new") - (a common card). It's in the welcoming box in Donovan's Cards.
Try to take the new Glumpus; a trader wants to know what you're trading to get it. Show the chud Glumpus to him. He agrees to the trade, but lets you keep both cards.
Upgrade the new Glumpus into a Sklarcrow XR, which see.
a Sklarcrow XR card (aka "crow" or "XR") - worth $8. Jesse, a kid in the Magical Emporium has it.
To be able to find Jesse, you must first show the new Glumpus to the crowd outside Donovan's. When one kid says their brother might want it, ask the kid about the brother to learn Jesse's name and description. Examine (or find) Jesse in the Emporium.
Show the new Glumpus to Jesse. He trades you a Sklarcrow XR for it.
a generic $15 card. You get this card if, in Donovan's Cards, you don't compliment the trader, but instead just show the Klip to the trader and accept the trade which doesn't advance you at all.
a Sorasaurus B&W card (aka "sora" or "B&W") - worth $30. One of the traders in Donovan's Cards has it.
In Donovan's Cards, first compliment the trader. While they're still high from the ego-boost, show the Klip (or generic) to the trader, then say yes to the offered trade. You now have the Sora.
a Mystiq card worth $250. You can upgrade to this card on Main Street, between Brian and Chad.
Outside Donovan's Cards, show the Krypt to the crowd, then sit down. In a quick-cut montage of hours of trading, you eventually stand up holding the Mystiq.
a Limited Edition Zihautanehawk card (aka "hawk") - worth $500. It's on display in the Magical Emporium, first shown as a glint on the counter.
In the Emporium, while also holding the $250 Magical Emporium gift card, show the Mystiq to the woman, then say yes to the offered trade. You hand over both the gift card and the Mystiq, but the Hawk is now yours.
You must have both the Hawk and the chud Glumpus with you when you find the card holder in the Sketchtown desert. When your death is eminent, make a wish (see lamp). The Djinni saves you by animating all the nearby cards into living avatars. The Hawk eventually falls in battle with the Toyotomi.
a Toyotomi Typo (aka "typo") - worth $8,000,000. In the desert at the GPS location, examine the sand to find a card holder containing this card.
You have time enough to examine the Typo in all its glory, but all too soon, the two men arrive, you make a wish, and then you must flee as the animated Typo attempts to kill you.
Keys
a key attached to a long piece of wood. You're carrying it when the game starts.
The key unlocks the Dollar Hut's bathroom door.
You may opt to search the bathroom's trash with the wood as a safe way of not touching the trash, but I prefer to just kick the trash.
Give the key to the clerk at the front of the store; you won't leave the store with it.
During the chase scene at the end of the game, the clerk tosses the key to you as you pass him. You'll catch and use the key automatically in your haste to get into the bathroom.
an apartment key. It's under the mat outside the front door of your apartment.
The key unlocks your apartment door, but after you unlock it, you must type a six-digit code to stop the alarm, the same six digits representing your date of birth on your driver's license.
a safe key. It's in your bedroom's desk drawer.
The key unlocks the safe hidden behind the poster in your bedroom.
In the hallway northeast of Donovan's Cards, show the ID to the employee there. Blow the whistle to summon the guard there, but don't wait for him. Instead go directly northeast into the VIP gallery and immediately put the guard's key into the putty. This makes an impression in the putty. The guard seeing you too close to his key for comfort, orders you to scram. Leave the gallery and put glue into the mold. It quickly hardens into a glue key.
In Donovan's Cards, unlock the office door with the glue key.
Buy the bag of bacon and the lamp with them; they each cost one dollar.
a $20 Snacktown gift card. You acquire it when the Djinni grants your first half-wish; see lamp.
In Karu, after you've eaten five plates worth of sushi, you use this gift card automatically when you leave the restaurant.
a Magical Emporium gift card. It's in your hidden wall safe behind the poster in your bedroom; unlock the safe with the safe key.
This card is worth $20. The model kit and the tin of Majik Putty cost $10 each; buy both of them with this gift card.
a $250 Magical Emporium gift card. Acquire this gift card by asking the cashier in the Emporium about a job application. This was clued by the mail.
In the Emporium, while holding this gift card, show the Mystiq to the cashier, then say yes to the offered trade. You hand over both the gift card and the Mystiq, but the Hawk is now yours.
Note your street address and apartment number, which you need when you first attempt to go west from Main onto Avin.
Also note that your DOB (Date of Birth) is also your alarm code.
It is not explained where your car is and why you don't use it. You do have a car, yes?
a bag of bacon. It's one of the items on the shelves at the back of the Dollar Hut.
CAUTION: Never handle the bacon bag directly with your hands for more than a turn. It's slippery, and if you lose your grip on it, it explodes and your quest is over.
To get the bacon to the front counter, put the bacon into the shopping cart and push the cart back south.
In your apartment, put both the bag and the lamp into your microwave. Close the microwave and turn it on to make a contained explosion which clears out the gum from the lamp's spout. Turn on the vent fan before opening the microwave. The foul bacon fumes are vented out of the story, and good riddance.
a lamp. It's one of the items on the shelves at the back of the Dollar Hut.
Rub the lamp to notice that the spout is clogged with gum. See bacon on how to unclog it.
After turning the fan off, rub the unclogged lamp to summon a Djinni who grants you three wishes, but because of the explosion, both his hearing and magic is impaired. Make three wishes for anything whatsoever, but what you get is a Snacktown gift card, a Metro pass, limited levitation ability, and the promise of two more wishes.
In Donovan's office, "make a wish" to unlock his safe.
In the desert, when asked if you have any last words, "make a wish" to animate all the nearby cards and the Lego Spaceman. This gives you your only chance at surviving the situation.
a shopping cart (being pushed). It's at the front of the Dollar Hut.
Push the cart north to the back of the Hut. Put the bacon and lamp into the cart, then push the cart south back to the front. Buy the bacon and lamp with your dollar bills. Don't take the cart with you when you leave.
a pot. It's in the main room of your apartment.
Fill it with water and put it on the stove, then turn on the stove to make the water warm. Now you can put the decals into the warm water to loosen them.
an ID badge. It's in the hidden wall safe behind your bedroom poster; unlock the safe with the safe key.
Examine it and take the sticker on the front. You move it to the back of the badge for safekeeping.
In your main apartment room, fill the pot with water, put it onto the stove, and turn on the stove to warm the water up. Put the decals from the model kit into the warm water; you automatically remove them when the decals are loosened. Take the Vigenere logo with the tweezers, then put the logo onto the ID badge. The ID badge now appears to show that you're employed at Vigenere.
In the hallway northeast of Donovan's Cards, say yes to the employee, then show the ID badge to her. She now permits you to enter the VIP lounge.
a Metro pass. You acquire it when the Djinni grants your first half-wish; see lamp.
In the Metro station, swipe the pass to unlock the turnstile. After the first time, you can go through the turnstile automatically without explicitly using the pass.
a Lego spaceman minifigure. It's part of the completed set on a high shelf in the Magic Emporium.
After you get the ability to levitate, fly in the Magic Emporium, then examine the completed set to find the minifigure. Fly again and take it.
During the endgame sequence, the Spaceman is animated with the cards. At one point, he blocks a fatal blow from the Typo that otherwise would have killed you.
a tin of Majik Putty. It's in the bin in the Magic Emporium. It costs $10; buy it with the Magic Emporium gift card.
a Vigenere model kit. It's in the bin in the Magic Emporium. It costs $10; buy it with the Magic Emporium gift card.
Open the kit: it contains some model pieces, some paper instructions, a small tube of glue, some tweezers, and some decals.
Read the instructions.
Examine the decals and note the Vigenere logo decal.
In your apartment, fill the pot with water, put the water on the stove, and turn on the stove to make warm water. Put the decals in the warm water to loosen them.
After taking the sticker off the front of the ID badge, take the logo with the tweezers, then put logo onto the ID badge.
After making a mold in the putty of the guard's key, put glue into the mold to make a glue key.
an empty plate. In Karu, the revolving sushi bar, there's usually a plate of sushi on the conveyor belt. Whenever you take a plate, you eat all of the sushi on it, leaving you with an empty plate. Each plate costs $4.
Put each empty plate into the slot in the table for it. Whenever you put a plate into the slot, the monitor's counter increase by one.
Taking the third plate triggers the arrival of two masked men; soon they will arrive at your table and steal all your cards. To save your cards, put them onto the belt. After the men are gone, the cards soon return on the belt; take them!
When you put the fifth plate into the slot, you acquire a prize ball. Do not take any more plates. Exit Karu to the south; you automatically use the $20 Snacktown gift card to pay for your meal.
a prize ball. At Karu, put five empty plates into the slot to acquire in the ball.
Blow the whistle anywhere to make a loud annoying noise. You need the whistle to help you make the glue key, which see.
a piece of mail. By the time you acquire the Mystiq, this paper is dropped into your apartment via the mail slot.
Read it. They're hiring at Magic Emporium and offering a bonus for anyone who fill out a job application there. That bonus is a $250 gift card (with many restrictions).
a GPS pinpointer. It's on the desk in Donovan's office.
At the edge of the Sketchtown desert, enter the sequence of numbers from the lottery ticket into the GPS, then go to the GPS location. That's where a second Typo has been hidden.
a lottery ticket. It's in Donovan's office safe. "Make a wish" (see lamp) to unlock it.
The numbers on the lottery ticket are the coordinates you should enter in the GPS pinpointer.
