Molly and the Butter Thieves is a Glulx interactive fiction game written with Inform 7 and is © 2015 by "Cosmic Hamster". This game was entered in ShuffleComp: Disc 2.

You play as Molly Butterfield, dairy farmer extraordinaire. Fairies have stolen your butter and prized butter dish for the last time. You intend to follow them and get your butter dish back.

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the game.

Kitchen

New commands for this game: FOLLOW [someone], STOP FOLLOWING [someone], EXITS, and KEYWORDS.

While waiting for the theft to occur, examine stuff.

Molly automatically puts down the poker. She's right; you won't need it.

Yard

The thief is moving slowly, but you can't waste too much time.

Forest Stream

Note how the lights stay away from the stream.

Forest Slope

Bog

A new cluster of lights appears.

To advance a conversation, type in a highlighted keyword.

She leaves, telling you to get a fairy flower.

Cave

Banquet Hall

If you choose to ignore Tom, the entire conversation with him is skipped.

Tom leaves, and a server approaches. If you decline the goblet, all the fairies are shocked and the server takes it away.

> x table. x letter. read it. x goblet.

> pour wine. drop goblet.

Scullery

> x dish. take it. x dishes.

> x channel. (Yet more evidence of water aversion.)

Bog

> w. (Fairies are now chasing you!)

Forest Slope

A new memory on how to be safe from fairies: Get a dewleaf (which grows near running water), wet it, and throw it outside your home.

Forest Stream

> x bush. take leaf. put leaf in stream. w.

Yard

Instead of dipping the leaf in the stream, you may dip it in the puddle that the pump makes.

> pump pump. x puddle. throw leaf.
