Lost In New York is an ALAN 2 interactive fiction game and is © 2000 by Mikko Vuorinen. The title is a riff on Neil deMause's 1996 game "Lost New York" which is a somewhat more ambitious work.
In this one-room joke game, you're literally lost in New York City. Try to find a way to get to your destination, wherever it is.
This solution is by David Welbourn.
Somewhere in New York
Some basic stuff to begin with:
> info
> x me. i. x screwdriver.
> x streets. x buildings. x people. x cars.
> x beggar. (He's not here.)
Try walking around? You don't seem to get anywhere.
> n. ne. e. se. s. sw. w. nw. u. d.
Use our eyes more?
> search streets. search buildings.
> search people. search me.
> read buildings. read cars.
Use our mouth?
> talk to people. sing. yell.
> eat screwdriver. eat people.
> kiss me. kiss people.
> blow me. blow people.
Use our nose?
> smell. smell me.
Use our feet more?
> jump. dance.
> enter building. climb building.
> enter car.
Try some IF magic? Be vulgar?
> xyzzy. plugh. plover. help. yes. no.
> fuck. fuck me. fuck people.
> piss. fart.
Use our hands? Attack things?
> touch me. touch people.
> take people. take car. take building. drop me.
> hit people. hit people with screwdriver.
> hit car. hit building.
> kill me. kill people.
Well, what's this screwdriver for?
> screw. unscrew. (Huh. The game doesn't know either verb.)
> drop screwdriver. throw screwdriver. (Nope. No maze-mapping that way.)
> wear screwdriver. sit on screwdriver.
> wave screwdriver.
You start swinging the screwdriver around. An old lady notices what you are doing and shouts, "Help! A crazy murderer! Help! Police!"
Soon the police arrive and you are arrested and taken to the station. After long interrogations you are finally released, and a friendly cop even offers you a ride to your destination.
Your screwdriver is confiscated, though. But it was about time to buy a new one anyway.
And that's how you win this game.
