In this fantasy adventure, you play as a large muscular barbarian, returned to the Scavenger's Den to meet your friend Darron from easten Shem. Unhappily, he bursts through the tavern door with a poisoned arrow in his chest and a bloodstained scroll signed by Belkor, a powerful necromancer who lives in a tower far to the northwest. Avenge Darron. Kill wizard.
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the game.
SPOILERS AHEAD. Reading a walkthrough prematurely can sometimes diminish one's enjoyment of an interactive fiction game. Please make an honest effort to play the game before reading this walkthrough.
Note that once you're off to avenge Darron, you won't re-enter the tavern. The game won't let you bother Osric.

Osric is a friend and the barman of the Scavenger's Den.
Some strangers in a corner of the tavern are keeping to themselves and talking in an odd dialect.
A thin wolf jumps out a you in the old forest.
Darron is your friend from eastern Shem. But when he enters the tavern, he's been shot with a poison arrow and will soon be dead.
A man in the slums will trade his talisman for some wine.
A dead man at the crossroads is the archer who shot Darron. The archer died from drinking poisoned water in his waterskin.
A scarecrow, animated by dark magics, blocks you passage through the fields.
A crow in a tree outside the farmhouse, caws at you mockingly, and holds a key in its talons.
Banshees are swirling angrily around a pillar in the moors, unable to leave.
A black panther confronts you in the Blackthorn Forest. She's looking for a good meal.
Someone you can't see pours hot oil on you when you're trapped in the allure.
A red demon, a green mephit, and a black fiend mock you from a distance in the courtyard.
Several skeletons sit motionless in the great hall, awaiting a feast. Skeletons eat?
A skeletal chef can't find any food to cook with in his kitchen.
Two stone golems guard the stairway to the necromancer's lair. Strong as you are, you are no match for them.
Belkor, the wizard, is in his necromancer's lair. A demon is whispering into his ear.
Mentioned:
Seraina was harmed (or killed?) by Belkor, according to Osric.
Old Man Grimes owns the farm.
Grimes's wife is buried in the cellar, according to the man who wants wine.
A woman in the painting distracts the archer while Osric puts poison into the man's waterskin. You don't recognize her.
