Key & Compass presents:
Eschew as if you were She
by W M Wellman

Eschew as if you were She is a Z-machine work of interactive fiction written with Inform 6 and is © 2001 by W M Wellman (writing as "Pxib"). It was an entry in the Speed-IF O event.

In this minimalist work, you can visit each of the four seasons where there are representative items — and She.

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the work.

Walkthrough

Winter Autumn Summer Spring e w

This is closer to poetry than a game. As far as I can tell, there are no goals to complete. No new objects can be created, nor can any existing objects be changed or destroyed.

What you can do is visit the four locations representing the four seasons, pick up a few seasonal props, examine them, and try to give them to a woman referred to only as "She", to see her somewhat brief responses to the same item in different seasons. There's not much more to it than that.

NOTE: You can only get to Winter by going west. Going east from Spring ought to also go to Winter, but it doesn't; it goes to Autumn instead.

Summer

> x she. x bottle. take bottle.

> give bottle to she. ask she about summer.

> kiss she.

> w.

Autumn

> x she. x rake. take rake.

> give rake to she. give bottle to she.

> ask she about autumn.

> kiss she.

> w.

Winter

> x fire. take fire. w.

Spring

> x she. ask she about spring.

> x lawnmower. take it.

> give mower to she. give rake to she.

> give fire to she. give bottle to she.

> kiss she.

> w.

Summer

> give fire to she. give rake to she. give mower to she.

> w.

Autumn

> give fire to she. give mower to she.

> quit.

And that's seems to be all you can do in this game.

As far as I can tell, the only way to use any item is to try giving it to She in the different seasons.

Thank You to my Patreon supporters

This walkthrough is provided free of charge since I wrote this walkthrough prior to January 2015 when I began my Patreon account, and also because the work it's based on has less than fifteen locations (so I wouldn't have charged for it anyway). I've since reformatted this walkthrough to use my currently preferred style. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm still creating new walkthroughs! Larger ones too! Please visit my Patreon account if you're interested in helping me create more interactive fiction walkthroughs. I appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks again.
