Dream Pieces is a Quest interactive fiction game and is © 2013 by Iam Curio. It was an entry in IF Comp 2013 where it took 20th place.
In this one-room playful wordplay game, you wake in your bedroom but it's just not the same! You're dreaming. It's a seeming. So take everything. Break, burn, and cut 'em: the pieces they bring! Mix pieces together and make something new. Now escape from this dream; that's what you must do.
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Version 4.0 of the game.
You are first asked to enter your birthdate [mmddyyyy], but any eight-digit number will do:
> 01012000 (for example)
Begin by examining everything.
> x bed. x sheets.
> x box. open box. x hummer.
> x chair. x floor mat.
> x desk. x lamp. x clock.
Break some things, then make a hammer:
> take lamp. break lamp. (+2)
> x la.
> take hummer. break hummer. (+3)
> x mmer.
> take chair. break chair.
> x c. x ha.
> mix ha with mmer. (+4; you have a hammer!)
> x hammer.
Use your hammer to break more things, then make a blade:
> break bed with hammer.
> x b. x e. x d.
> break desk with hammer.
> x de. x k.
> mix b with la.
> mix bla with de. (+4; you have a blade!)
> x blade.
Use your blade to cut things, then make matches:
> cut sheets with blade. (+4)
> x s. x he.
> cut floor mat with blade. (+4)
> x mat. x oor.
> mix mat with c.
> mix matc with he.
> mix matche with s. (+4; you have matches!)
> x matches.
Use your matches to burn the box, then make a door:
> burn box with matches. (+3)
> x y.
> mix d with oor. (+3; clock falls)
> x door.
Break the clock, then make a lock and key and escape!
> take clock. break clock. (+2)
> x lo. x ck.
> mix lo with ck. (+4)
> x lock.
> mix k with e.
> mix ke with y. (+8; you found a key!)
> x key. take key.
> unlock door. open door. out.
