You play as a Horse, the dominant species on this planet. Your lover was unfaithful, so you plan to use a Rootwork ritual to ensnare him to you forever. Most of the ingredients you'll need are in the swamp north of Creola.
This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the game.

You can't actually examine the tree here.
> x corpse. talk to corpse. kiss corpse.
It's so difficult to guess this action:
> look under corpse. take root. x root.
If you have all three ingredients, taking inventory is the action that triggers the end-of-game message.

Extras
Characters
In this game, use TALK TO [character] to communicate. You can also try to INTIMIDATE a character.
The player-character is a Horse, gender-unspecified and unpleasant, with red eyes and a tangled moldy mane. The character is an evil sorcerer type and seems to like necrotic things.
Your lover is male and sits in the quaint drinking establishment. I presume that he's a Horse too, but the game never says explictly.
A small horse staffs the supply shop. This horse is female and easy to intimidate.
Shellycoats swim below you in the swamp.
Brieflings fly above you in the swamp.
The corpse of someone unknown is hanging from the gallows tree.
Endings
You sink down to your knees in the swamp, then your stomach. Soon, the filthy swampwater is up to your neck. You are completely and utterly stuck and will continue to sink to your death unless anyone finds you and helps you up, which won’t happen. Frankly, if somehorse saw you sink, they’d probably just watch your head disappear under the surface and stay until they were certain you were dead. if you try to enter the swamp without the protection of Crow's Feet.
You cut the mandrake root up, put the hair and the wings inside and then sew it shut. If everything goes to plan, tomorrow he’ll be yours. when you take inventory and have all three ingredients for the Rootwork.
Inventory
a book. You're carrying it. It's an encyclopedia. You can look up the following topics: Briefling, Creola, Crow's Feet, Glowseason, Horse, Intimidation, Mandrake, Rootwork, Shellycoats, Singing, Vatch.
a satchel. You're carrying it. You can't actually put anything into it.
a knife. You're carrying it. I couldn't seem to cut anything with it.
a list. You're carrying it. Read it; it lists the ingredients you need for the ritual.
Crow's feet. It's in the supply shop. Intimidate the horse there, and she'll let you take it. You need to be carrying it in order to enter the swamp. Although the game says crow's feet should be worn, you can't actually wear them.
a strand of hair. Your lover is in the quaint drinking establishment. You can just take the hair, pulling it out of his head.
a Briefling's wing. Sing in the swamp; you'll rip a wing off the Briefling that is attracted to your song.
a mandrake root. Look under the corpse hanging from the gallows tree to find it. When you have all three ingredients (hair, wing, root), take inventory to end the game in victory.
