by Adam Biltcliffe

98769765 is a Z-machine interactive fiction game written with Inform 6 and is © 2003 by Adam Biltcliffe. This game is also known as The Apex. It was an entry in the Speed-IF 19 event.

In this surreal game, you play as someone on a small world inside a gigantic Toys-R-Us Bag of Rusty Lead-Painted Metal Bits. You will learn that the time of the Opening is near, a time when evil can be banished from your world.

This solution is by David Welbourn, and is based on Release 1 of the game.

West Pole

Note that going east from the West Pole or going west from the East Pole will randomly put you into one of the four central locations.

> x message. take it. e.

If you aren't at Village, go north repeatedly until you are.

Village

> x dave. ask dave about anything.

> spells. s. s.

Temple

> x angel. ask angel about anything.

> x book. decode message. spells. s.

Pits of Darkness

> x darkness. take it. s.

Village

> give book to dave. spells. n.

Pits of Darkness

> tsanmyg. take darkness. n. n.

The Apex

> ycneced. (+100)

*** Pandora's box was a bag of rusty metal from Toys-R-Us ***

I'll also point out that "tsanmyg" is "gymnast" backwards, and "ycneced" is "decency" backwards. I have no idea at all what the title "98769765" means, if anything.

Thank You to my Patreon supporters

This walkthrough is provided free of charge since I wrote this walkthrough prior to January 2015 when I began my Patreon account, and also because the work it's based on has less than fifteen locations (so I wouldn't have charged for it anyway). I've since reformatted this walkthrough to use my currently preferred style. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm still creating new walkthroughs! Larger ones too! Please visit my Patreon account if you're interested in helping me create more interactive fiction walkthroughs. I appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks again.
