Escape from a Planet Filled with Monkeys!

solution

Escape from a Planet Filled with Monkeys! was written in TADS for LoTechComp, and is © 2001 by Randall M! Gee.

This solution is by David Welbourn.

General Notes:

On some interpreters, the game will crash when it tries to display the picture of the Monkey of Liberty. To avoid this, you can rename or remove the resource file LoTechMonkeys.rs0 (however, you'll miss all the other graphics and sound that way), or you can avoid asking the Beaver about the Monkey of Liberty.

You can only successfully search for either your toothbrush or your teddybear, but not both. You can try to use these tools when trying to escape the cell, fighting George, or fixing the car.

The game that Bob wants to play is the game of Nim. It is beyond the scope of this walkthrough to explain Nim strategies in detail; you are advised to do a websearch for "winning Nim" or "Nim strategy". In brief, you want to work towards winning combinations. For two piles: 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc. For three piles: 1-2-3, 1-4-5, 2-4-6, 3-5-6, 3-4-7, 2-5-7, 1-6-7. For four piles: 2-3-4-5, 4-5-6-7, 1-3-4-6, 1-2-5-6, 1-2-4-7, 1-3-5-7, 2-3-6-7.

You can better your odds at Bob's game by typing "look" when Bob lays out a new round to get a different random setup. (Some purists think this is cheating. Purists shouldn't read walkthroughs.)

(2) The 'eaten by bunnies' ending

>2 (head for Elppa-ydnac)

(3) The 'crushed by furious George' ending

>1 (head for Yeknom); 1 (stay); 3 (wait); 2 (refuse); 1 (fight George with bare hands)

(4) The 'right-hand monkey' ending
